Are Apologia courses college preparatory?

This is a very common question and the answer is ABSOLUTELY. Dr. Wile is a former university professor. When he began writing Apologia courses he was sure to include everything he would have expected his university students to know when they came to his class. We believe students who take our courses in junior high and high school will definitely be prepared for college, but don't take our word for it! Check out what both students and parents have said…

I just want to thank you for your easy to understand and complete texbooks.  I am 16 years old have taken Apologia General Science, Biology, Chemistry and I am now taking Physics, I just scored a 29 on my ACT.  But, more specifically, I ranked 98% in the U.S. on the Science section. I am looking forward to pursuing a major in Environmental Biology when I graduate.  I took your advice and read Eco-Scam and Eco- Sanity along with many others and I feel quite capable of debating with any environmentalist. Thank you! -Student

I just wanted to THANK YOU so much for writing your science books. In jr. high/highschool, I took General Science, Physical Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and part of Advanced Physics, and they were great! (except for chem- even though the book was well-written, chem's not my favorite subject). I loved the physics course, it was by far my favorite. It gave me such a good foundation for college. I am a sophpmore at Pensacola Christian College, in their Mech. Eng. program. Currently I'm in my second semester of their calculus-based physics class. Unfortunately, the textbook that we use (Univ. Physics 11th ed. by Young and Freedman) is, to put it plainly, horrible. The text is dry and unclear, and the example problems are misleading and poorly done. I was getting frustrated last semester, so I had my mom mail me your Advanced physics book. From the clear text and OYO problems in that book, and from the solid foundation I received from your physics course which I took in 11th grade, I got an A in the class w/ out ever opening the college's book except to do homework problems! In highschool, I definitely took for granted the quality of your courses. I would have used your chemistry book as a study tool last year when I took chemistry, but my younger brother was taking it at home, so I couldn't. As I've said before, your courses are very preparatory for college. I tell my classmates about them, and some of them have borrowed the book, and it has helped them as well. Thank you so much for writing them! I pray that God will continue to bless you as you produce them. -Student

…I am currently a college freshman at LeTourneau University.  As a homeschooled high school student, I had the privilege of using your material for Chemistry I and II, Physics, and Biology.  Now, as a General Chemistry student, I have been very pleased with the excellent preparation that I received as a result of using your material for chemistry.  Several weeks ago…our professor…said that he was going to recognize several students for their academic achievements in General Chemistry.  I was naturally gratified to hear my name among [those] called…The other two students who were recognized are friends of mine, so I knew that both of them had been homeschooled.  I also knew that one had used your high school science curriculum, but I wasn't sure about the other. After class, I had to find out.  Amazingly, the other student had also used your chemistry program in high school!  What a “coincidence” that out of sixty General Chemistry students, the three students to receive awards, based upon their mid-term grades, were all homeschooled and all used the same Chemistry program! Obviously we were well prepared through your curriculum.  Thank you so much for producing an excellent product! -Student

My older son is currently studying Apologia's Advanced Chemistry.  He completed your Chemistry course last year and took the subject exam.  He scored 700 on the test.  I have a Peterson's AP Chemistry study guide (I bought this used) for him to use in preparation for the test.  We will use this unless there is guide that you have found to be better -Parent

Just wanted to share my good news with you.  After spending about 10 months plowing diligently and sometimes gripingly through Biology, my 10th grader has just CLEPped her way to 8 hours of college credit in Biology.  Thanks for your great course that enabled her to prepare so adequately.  I told her repeatedly that she was receiving a better biology course than I ever received in high school or college.  I helped her study for midterms, finals, and the CLEP.  As we homeschool parents always do, I learned a lot, too.  Thanks again for your great courses.  We are about to jump into Chemistry -Parent

I homeschooled from kindergarden until I graduated from highschool and took your sciences all throughout highschool--your physical science, biology, chemistry, and human anatomy. I've never been much of a science person, but your textbooks made it enjoyable and so easy to understand! To my surprise, I really enjoyed the chemistry book, which I took my junior year of highschool. Now I am in my second year of college and finishing up my fall semester. I am working on my core classes. I have to take two sciences and decided to take chemistry 105 this fall since that was my favorite science in highschool. Your book is the main reason I have done well in this class. My college professor would lecture and I would leave the classroom so lost. Then I would go home and find that topic in your textbook and after reading about it in your book, I understood it! So I just wanted to thank you for how well you explain everything. I really appreciate how you wrote for homeschoolers and gave the glory to God. Next semester I am taking biology so I'm sure I'll be using Exploring Creation With Biology! -Student

I just wanted to write in to let you know how grateful I am for your curriculum.  I am a college freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.  I was homeschooled my entire life and used your curriculum from 7th grade through graduation.  I am taking Honors Phys 211 (General Physics), and found out today that, as of midterms, I am first in my class by a long shot, on top of 20 juniors, 50 sophomores, and 20 other freshmen.  And I barely even have to study!  This is definitely because of everything I remember from your GREAT Physics text.  Thanks so much, and keep up the great work helping homeschoolers achieve excellence in science. -Student
