'Tis The Season To Pause

By Rachael Carman

Much has been written about the seasons of life. Childhood is often compared to spring, young adulthood to summer, middle age to fall, and old age to winter. Marriage and parenthood also have their seasons. In her book Seasons of a Mother’s Heart, Sally Clarkson refers to spring, summer, fall, and winter as the seasons of renewal, response, resolve, and reflection, respectively. ...

Christmas is like a season within a season and is my favorite time of year, despite the cold weather. (I can get a chill when the temperature dips below 70.) Now that we’ve arrived at another Christmas season, I once again find that I am not where I wanted to be at this point in our school year. I am pulled between enjoying the season and obsessing over school. It is an old temptation and one I keep thinking I have finally mastered before the feelings come flooding back. I know this season will pass in only a couple of weeks—not nearly enough time for me to catch up on everything I need to get done. It is hard to simply exhale and let my mind, body, and soul rest in celebration.

For this reason, I want to share with you some encouragement for this special time of the year. Let’s put worksheets aside for Him who is called Wonderful Counselor. Let’s be willing to delay English for the Everlasting Father. Let’s put a hold on math to focus on Almighty God. Let us pause to ponder the homeschool journey and lay our lesson plans before the Prince of Peace. ...

SoundBites From Heaven
What God Wants Us to Hear When We Talk to Our Kids

By Rachael Carman

You've said it to your kids - but did you know God is saying it to you? In fact, your heavenly Father wants to tell you the same things you've probably told your children:

"I remember the day you were born."
"Turn down the music!"
"This is going to hurt me more than it's going to hurt you."
"Hold my hand."

Rachael Carman knows how noisy it can get when you're raising children - she has seven! SoundBites from Heaven will help you hear God's still, small voice in the chaos of carpools, cut fingers, and carpet crawlers. You'll learn how to listen to God's instructions for YOU, while you parent your children.
