Praying for Your Homeschool
II Thessalonians 5:18 says, “Pray at all times.”
Those of us who have been called to homeschool our children and have faithfully answered that call must be diligent in our prayers. It is important to spend time praying for your homeschool. We must constantly seek God’s will as we educate our children. We must listen to the Father as He “gently leads those who have young” (Isaiah 40:11). We must ensure that we are not getting in the way of His will for each of our children.
Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace in our time of need.”
Pray through scripture with these nine examples of specific, intentional prayers for your homeschool.
Guidance
Lord, I pray that You would lead me as I homeschool my children (Psalm 73:24). I am at a crossroads, (Jeremiah 16:6). Make our path straight (Proverbs 3:6). This is a new path for me, and I do not know where I am going. But I am confident that You have a plan (Jeremiah 29:11; Isaiah 42:16). You have called our family to this journey for Your glory; show us the way (Philippians 1:6).
Vision
I pray, Lord, that You would grant me eyes that would see the plans You have for these children You have blessed me with (Psalm 119:18). Your word says that “where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18). Show me Your will. Open my eyes, Lord! Show me, Lord, who these children are for Your glorious purpose (Ephesians 2:10). Show me how to equip them for everything You have planned for them. And Father, open the eyes of their hearts also that they might know Your will for their lives.
Discernment
Father, I do not want to walk by sight, but by faith (Hebrews 11:1). I do not want to depend on what makes sense to this world to determine my actions as a homeschool mom. II Peter 1:3 says Your “divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.” Let me go forward in confidence because of my relationship with You and in nurturing my children’s relationship with You before anything else!
Strength
In this homeschooling journey, I get very weary. I feel hopeless and helpless sometimes as I try to do it all. Be my strength (Philippians 4:13)! I acknowledge that I cannot do it without You (John 5:30). “I love You, O Lord, my strength! (Psalm 18:1) I pray that You would contend with my enemies (Psalm 35) and sustain me as I seek to do Your will as a homeschool mom (Psalm 55:22). Today, I choose to “stand firm” (Ephesians 6 and Romans 5) and live in Your power, not in fear (II Timothy 1:7).
Patience
Help me, Lord to remember that this is a journey in progress. Grant me Your patience with my children as I train them in Your ways (Proverbs 22:6). Keep me mindful of Your patience with me and my sinful nature (Romans 2:14; 3:23). Grant me the ability to be self-controlled and experience Your Holy Spirit in order that my children might be drawn to You and Your glory. Do not allow me to exasperate them (Ephesians 6:4). Let me love them with the unconditional love You extended to me (John 3:16; I Corinthians 13; Romans 5:8).
Grace
Father, You have freely given Your grace to me (Ephesians 2:7). Give me the ability to give Your grace to my children as they grow up and mature. Please do not allow me to be harsh with them and judge them rashly (Matthew 7:1). Do not let me insist on my children living by the law and not extend grace to them (Romans 5:20-21). Empower me to err on the side of grace and not on judgment.
Perseverance
Lord, I want to be able to say, “I have fought the good fight, and I have finished the course!” (II Timothy 4:7). Help me to keep on keeping on in this call to homeschool. You have said that You will never let me down (Deuteronomy 31:6). I claim Exodus 14:14, which says that You will fight for me, and I also claim Joshua 1:9, where You encouraged him to “be strong and courageous,” because You are always with me. It is my desire to go forward in this call You have given me.
Gratitude
Thank You, Father, for calling me to be a homeschool mom. Thank You for giving me the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with You as You fashion these children into all that You have planned for them to be. Thank You also for Your infinite patience with me and for exposing my faults so that I can depend on You more each day. Thank You for the daily reminders that You are here in our homeschool and You are still the God of the universe and Immanuel, God with us. I continue looking forward to the knowledge that You have great plans for those who love, trust and obey Your good, perfect and pleasing will. Amen.
