Devotional: Holy Spirit with Every Breath

Davis Carman|February 9, 2017

The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. (Job 33:4)

The Holy Spirit Brings Life

The Holy Spirit is the Breath of the Almighty. He gives life to all living things, and in Him, we live and move and exist (Acts 17:28). When Adam was created, God breathed into his physical lungs and gave life to that dirty, dusty body.

When you were reborn as a follower of Christ, God breathed His Spirit into you. From the moment you first believed, the Holy Spirit has been present in your physical body, which is called His temple, His dwelling place (1 Corinthians 6:19).

The Holy Spirit Is A Gift

This is the gift Jesus promised to leave us so that we would not be alone after He ascended to heaven (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit wants to help you accomplish all the work that the Father and Son have planned in advance for you to do (Ephesians 2:10). He promises to be your comforter and advisor, guiding you into all truth (John 16:5–15).

Surrendering to the Holy Spirit Brings Glory to God

We were made to bring glory to God with our every breath in this physical life. But we can only do this by surrendering to the Holy Spirit and letting Him control our lives (Romans 8:5–8).

Will you yield to the Spirit’s leading and let Him guide you today? Will you yield to His power and let Him work through you today?

Holy Spirit, I recognize that I am weak. And so I yield to your power to overcome temptation. I rely on your power to live wholly for you. Fill me with your presence to accomplish the will of the Father this day. In Jesus’ name, I ask this. Amen.

Walking by faith and enjoying the homeschooling adventure of a lifetime!
