Becky Edmondson
B.S. Biology
After graduating from Western Carolina University with a degree in Biology, Pre-Med, Becky married her best friend, Rick in 1991. While he worked in the engineering field, Becky worked as a PT assistant preparing for her master’s in physical therapy until the birth of their first child, Caelen, in 1994. This began her career as a stay-at-home mom and homeschool teacher! Three of her 4 children have now graduated from homeschooling. Caelen (30) Works as a
Labor and Delivery Nurse while her husband, Sam, works as a PA at the hospital in Fort Defiance, AZ. Hannah (28) is married to Tim and, along with their two children, Calvin (5) and Elsie (3), work as full-time missionaries in Southeast Asia. Nathan (27) works as a Ranger Medic in the United States Army. Benjamin (22) works as a jack of all trades, his favorites being a driller, welder, and heavy machinery specialist with a company that takes him from state to state.
Becky began teaching during her college years when she tutored students in the areas of anatomy & physiology and physics. That experience sparked her desire to become an educator. While homeschooling her four children in the early years, she also enjoyed tutoring high school and college students in algebra and biology.
When her own children were old enough to officially begin their science studies, Becky founded the Danville School of Arts and Sciences, a community-wide homeschool organization in Danville, VA. There she began to teach the Apologia sciences. After moving back to Western North Carolina in 2006, she continued to teach Apologia’s Biology and Physical Science courses in a local co-op.
Among Becky’s favorite things (besides all things science) are being involved in her kids’ and grandkids’ lives, spending time with her family (especially outdoors), helping to develop Titus 2 relationships among women in her local church, cooking, gardening, music ministry, and camping with Rick in their newly remodeled 1992 Sundancer Winnebago, The Sunny D!
Her prayer for her students is that they will not only gain a love and excitement for science but will also walk away with a better understanding of God’s universe and their place in it.
