J. Austin Powell

Mr. Powell is a retired law enforcement professional with over 27 years of service at both the local and federal levels, including senior-level policy advisory roles and expertise in preparing official responses and testimony to Congress. He has personally provided testimony to a state-level General Assembly and is recognized as an expert in policy development affecting worldwide operations of a Cabinet-level Federal law enforcement agency. His contributions include drafting portions of U.S. law signed by the President. Additionally, he is a Certified Fraud Examiner and serves on the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners’ Advisory Council.
Mr. Powell earned his Bachelor of Science in Government & Politics from the University of Maryland and a Master of Arts from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. After completing his master’s, he obtained a doctoral-level Executive Certificate in Public Policy from Liberty University’s Helms School of Government. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Policy, focusing on matters intersecting faith and public affairs.
In retirement, Mr. Powell continues to serve through teaching and mentoring students in criminal justice, public safety, and leadership at various institutions. He is also dedicated to preparing for full-time ministry, with a special focus on ministering to law enforcement officers and their families.
He resides in Florida with his wife of 25 years and their beloved puppy, Finley. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and biking around town.
