Curriculum Overview

Exploring Creation with Mathematics, Level 2 was designed to cultivate a love of numbers while building on a student’s ability to use numbers and mathematical symbols. Filled with activities, projects, and games that help students understand how they can manipulate numbers as they investigate the world, students will also see the greater connections between our world and our God.

Continuing a rich introduction to elementary math, Level 2 covers adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers, telling time, manipulating money, and learning more about measurement, data collection, and geometry, including 3D shapes. Utilizing a mastery approach, the Exploring Creation with Mathematics Series helps your student advance strategically through lessons, projects, and reviews, enabling them to apply the math they have learned to their lives.

In this course your student will find:

  • Seeing Our Creator devotionals, at the beginning of each unit, connect the math concepts your child will learn to God and His creation
  • A suggested daily schedule, with thoughtful pacing through concepts that reflect a systematic progression from one skill to the next, is most important for eliminating frustration
  • Plenty of skills practice, including fresh and exciting easy-to-set-up games to help ensure that your child is prepared for the next level of math concepts introduced
  • Hands-on activities, games, and projects using the provided activity sheets and everyday household products that give your child tangible connections to the abstract concepts learned
  • Colorful and age-appropriate lesson layouts and page design make learning more inviting for your student
  • Options and suggestions for adjusting a lesson if your child is struggling or if your child is advancing quickly through the material are provided
  • Supply lists, answers to the problems, teaching tips, and suggestions for taking an activity further are also given

Lesson Plans and Materials

This course is designed to be done 4 days a week for 28 weeks, and each lesson takes 30 to 45 minutes. A suggested daily schedule is included with this course so your student easily understands what is expected of them each day, while also providing flexibility to meet the needs of your student and family.

To be able to fully use this course, some common household and math manipulative items will be needed. Nothing fancy…things like dry beans for counting or a base ten block set for math manipulatives. A complete list of suggested items is included in the Teaching Guide & Answer Key.

Changed mid year to Apologia from another brand and am so happy I did

I have a 7 year old who was doing well, one level ahead using another brand's curriculum for Level 2. But, this year when we started Level 3, he STRUGGLED. It was a spiral approach curriculum that also included lots of stories, geography and real life examples. My son was lost and overwhelmed with too much information. The curriculum was open and go, easy for me but way to cumbersome and intense for him. Since switching to Apologia, he has been doing so much better. Granted we had to go back and start at the beginning of Level 2 since I noticed a difference in the methods and concepts taught, along with the mastery approach. He is able to complete 2 lesson per day in less than 30 minutes with no stress, for him or me. The teachers guide is super easy to follow, so I am not overwhelmed with prep work or understanding what he should be learning that day. The workbook itself may include a super short story with real life pictures that look like photos (I think he prefers these over illustrations because they are more "real") but mostly, the text only covers the topic at hand, very briefly. The opening activities are easy and hands on but do not require a lot of cutting or gathering of supplies (thank goodness!) I just have th block tens set and linking cubes. The mastery approach helps him to better retain the information and I think the simple flow of the worksheets help him not feel overwhelmed, even if he has more than one worksheet to do, he breezes through them. Overall, I am so glad I made the switch!

Almost great

We have level one and really enjoyed it- except for one thing. The pages you are supposed to use for lessons are not perforated. I am literally cutting up the book to get the pages out of the book without tearing up the pages. Level 2 is the same way. It is totally ridiculous and super annoying. Honestly I expected better. I have Apologia science curriculum so I know it can be done better. Please fix this small, but utterly irritating, feature.

Hi Amy, We greatly appreciate your feedback. We have heard this from other customers as well, and our future printings will include perforation. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review which allows us to make improvements to our products to benefit those we serve. Gratefully, The Apologia Family

Love it!

My daughter loves this math program and often asks to do extra lessons. The teacher’s guide helps me understand math better since I didn’t get a firm foundation in my own math education. I am so thankful we found it!

Thriving with Apologia Math

I just have to share this praise with you. My son has been using Apologia math for 2 years, ever since we brought him home from public school. Math was his favorite subject in school and we tried several curricula before finding Apologia a few months into his 2nd grade year. He LOVES your math. Our state requires standardized testing in 3rd grade. He sat for his test a few weeks ago and I just got the results. He scored 100% in math! He is thriving with Apologia math, and we are so grateful to you for that!
