Simplify Science Testing with AutoGrade+ Learn More
Apologia offers a complete middle school science curriculum for homeschool with two courses for 7th and 8th grade students – General Science and Physical Science.
At Apologia, we call the two short years of 7th and 8th grades in middle school the transition years because young scientists are transitioning from elementary science into the high school science stage. It is during these two years that students begin to learn more independence and take responsibility for their work. And with Apologia’s middle school curriculum, young students who were walked step-by-step through their elementary curriculum are now instructed in applying independent learning techniques.
The first step toward independence is knowing what to do and when to do it. In the elementary years, suggested daily schedules were provided for the parent. In middle school, suggested daily schedules are found in the student notebook so that students know exactly what is assigned. A daily schedule gives students the independence to work on their own (and Mom more free time). Students check each day as done when their work is finished, and parents can easily track their student’s progress.
Shop Middle School CurriculumOur student notebooks guide middle school students with their note-taking to become more structured, logical, factual, and, most importantly, independent. We use colorful graphics to show the students what materials are important and actively participate with your student as they learn note-taking skills. Perhaps most importantly, Apologia notebooks provide experimental lab report templates for each experiment listed in the textbook. Templates progress from step-by-step instruction to full student independence.
Shop NowWhile there were no tests in the elementary years, students built confidence in showing their knowledge through testing in middle school. But because test-taking is a learned skill, we walk them through that process as well. In our 7th grade title, Exploring Creation with General Science, we specifically created the curriculum with open-book tests for the first few modules so that students are slowly introduced to tests and learn how to study and prepare.
Shop NowApologia’s Exploring Creation with General Science, 3rd Edition, is part of Apologia’s award-winning science curriculum for homeschooled middle school students. It is designed to be the first course of middle school and walks students through the transition from elementary to middle school sciences.
This General Science course gives students an understanding of the world that surrounds them so they can appreciate the real-world relevance of scientific inquiry and the beauty of Creation.
Recommended Grade Level: 7th – 8th grade
Shop General ScienceExploring Creation with Physical Science, 3rd Edition is designed to prepare your 8th or 9th grade student as they transition into high school Biology. This science course teaches atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonds, reactions, motion, forces, energy, waves, sound, light, electricity, magnetism, Earth’s structure, weathering, and atmosphere.
Recommended Course Grade Level: 8th – 9th grade
Shop Physical ScienceAnd because junior high school students aren’t just transitioning out of elementary science but also into more challenging courses during high school, it is important that your middle school student understand the history of science and how to use the scientific method to design and execute experiments. You can trust that your 7th-grade student will be peacefully transitioned out of elementary science courses and that your 8th-grade student will be well prepared for rigorous high school science.
Our curriculum also keeps the parent as the ultimate teacher. We make it easy on you by giving you not just the answer to the questions but also detailed reasons why those answers are correct. You will find that whenever Apologia answers, the answer itself is always in a bold blue font, but the explanation for that answer could be as long as a paragraph. We never make you or your student do more work than is necessary.
