Dr. Brian Huffling

B.A. History, M.A. Apologetics, Biblical Studies, and Philosophy, Ph.D. Philosophy of Religion

Dr. Huffling is from Charlotte, NC, and is married to his wife, Lacey. He has a BA in History with a minor in Bible from Lee University, an MA in Apologetics, Biblical Studies, and Philosophy from Southern Evangelical Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Religion from SES. He has served on various church staffs. He has served in the Marines and Navy and is currently a reserve Air Force chaplain. He is ordained with the Southern Baptist Convention and endorsed for military chaplaincy with the Associated Gospel Churches.

Description

In Apologia’s Live Philosophy & Ethics class, students will learn about the ideas and influences of philosophers through the ages. They will also examine current ethical hot topics from a biblical worldview and learn how to refute arguments that oppose what the Bible teaches.

Prerequisites: None
Course Credit: One High School Elective Credit

Course Topics

  • Semester One: Philosophy
    • To understand our culture today, students need to know the ideas espoused by Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, Aquinas, Kant, and Nietzsche. Students will see the influence their ideas have had on world events, theology, and our everyday lives. 
  • Semester Two: Ethics 
    • Students will examine various ethical systems as they develop a solid foundation for biblically based ethical reasoning. They will examine what the Bible teaches about abortion, same-sex marriage, and cloning, as well as learn how to refute the most prominent arguments of those who oppose Christian ethical positions. 

Recorded Classes

All classes are video recorded and available for students to watch later so they don’t miss any instruction.
