Embracing the Homeschool Journey: Lessons and Life from Jeannie Fulbright
Learning Together and on Their Own
Jeannie’s homeschool strategy involved combining all ages for subjects like Bible, science, and art while handling subjects like math individually and based on each child’s learning pace. She found it to be a harmonious way to respect individual learning styles while strengthening family bonds.
Jeannie suggests that audiobooks can offer parents a break while maintaining family learning time. Kids can dive into activities and notebooks that match their level while listening to the book, helping to create awesome family memories.
Finding the Right Balance
Parents often stress about not doing enough in homeschooling. Jeannie advises parents to remember that homeschooling is a journey. Homeschooling is more about creating meaningful family moments and playing to each child’s strengths than being perfect academically. She emphasizes that building family character and a child’s relationship with the Lord is what matters most. As Jeannie wisely points out, God will fill in the gaps, ensuring kids are ready for whatever future He has in store for them.
Nature’s Bonding Effects & the Need for a Biblical Science Curriculum
“The more time my kids spent outside,” she said, “the better they got along.” Time in nature minimized squabbles and made for more harmonious family dynamics. Science shows how beneficial nature is for emotional health, and Jeannie noticed how much time spent outdoors positively affected her kids’ focus and cooperation.
As Jeannie’s kids discovered their love of nature, they began asking to learn about science. Living in a world filled with books written from a secular viewpoint, she felt compelled to write science books with a Biblical perspective. She wanted her kids to see God’s handiwork in every scientific discovery. And so, the Young Explorer Series was created.
