Author Kathryn Gomes explains the concrete, pictorial, and abstract learning progression in Exploring Creation with Mathematics.
Up front- we have not started the books we have ordered yet. I have gone through them and just wanted to say that the design, pictures, pages, layouts, are some of the most eye pleasing photos and best quality we have received durring our homeschool years. I also want to add the fast shipping, and the amount of information in the books to help the teacher is great. We bought the math 3 and new Zoology 1, and for the 1st time ever, my daughter is excited and eager to start when she saw the books!
We have been using Apologia math since level 1 came out. Although it may be a bit more parentally -involved than other curriculums, we absolutely love it. It has brief hands-on activities and games with just enough practice to not feel redundant. Almost all the materials are common household items which I greatly appreciate. There are few materials that you need to buy. If is requested that you buy something, it's used in multiple levels of the curriculum. My son absolutely loves this math. The author does an incredible job of connecting the math skills with real life. Each unit ends with a project that focuses on a real world situation. The only suggestion I would add is that, for us, we have added Math Reflexes by Time4Learning just to help with speed with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. This is not necessary as the book gives plenty of suggestions and resources to practice calculation skills. It's just what's worked best for us. We can't wait to start level 4!
