Praise Him in the Storm
Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness! (Lamentations 3:22–23)
The book of Lamentations is traditionally attributed to the prophet Jeremiah. Sometimes called the weeping prophet, Jeremiah’s writings mourn the capture of Jerusalem by the Babylonians. He had warned the people of the city’s downfall, but no one listened. And so he would lament all that went wrong with the city and people he loved. Yet in the midst of these terrible times, Jeremiah declared the character and faithfulness of God: “Yet I call this to mind, and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness! (Lamentations 2:21–23).
Remember, no matter what you have walked through—or will walk through—God never changes. Choosing to remember that His character and faithfulness never fail will help you to stay the course when times get rough. David remembered in Psalm 63. The prophet remembered in Nehemiah 4:14. As the body of Christ, we remember whenever we partake of the Lord’s Supper.
What do you remember about the Lord’s faithfulness when you look back at your own life? How do you respond to His character and faithfulness? Do you ever lie awake at night wondering if things will ever change? How can you respond to trouble with confidence in the future?
Remember the Lord’s faithfulness today. Remember and respond. God is good, even when you are beset by difficult circumstances. God is good when you find yourself in the middle of a storm. If you’ve recently received bad news, don’t be afraid—instead, remember. Praise Him in the storm! As you recall how God has delivered you from troubles in the past, let those memories feed your soul.
Then just as you praised Him in the storm, you can praise Him in the sun, too.
Father, I can’t do this alone. I need you. I praise you for your never-ending faithfulness and unfailing character. I call this to mind and therefore have this hope: Your steadfast love never ceases. Your mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness! Father, I choose today to respond to your faithfulness with praise and confidence.
Walking by faith and enjoying the homeschooling adventure of a lifetime!
