Rebuilding Your Homeschool: Where Do You Start?
Sometimes we know something in our lives needs to change, but knowing where to begin can feel almost as overwhelming as the work itself. Maybe it’s your marriage, your family, your church—or your homeschool. When something that was once strong is now in need of repair, the temptation can be to look at the whole project and wonder, Where do I even start?
The good news is that we serve a God who is “in the business of redemption.” We don’t have to rebuild alone.
How to Rebuild
Step One: Ask Yourself the Tough Questions
In the story of Israel’s return from exile, we find a helpful picture for those facing their own rebuilding projects. The people returned to Jerusalem with an enormous task before them, and the first lesson was simple but challenging: dig deep and ask some tough questions.
- Are we content with where we are?
- What kind of life do we really want to live?
- Are we willing to step out of our comfort zone and take on the work God has placed before us?
Step Two: Return to God & Prioritize
From there, the rebuilding began with the right priorities. Before the walls were restored or the city was rebuilt, the people focused on the altar, the heartbeat of their faith. There’s a lesson for us here, too. When life feels chaotic, it can be tempting to tackle everything all at once. But rebuilding becomes possible when we return to what matters most and put our priorities in the right order.
Step Three: Fight For It
And then comes perhaps the hardest part: fighting for it.
Rebuilding rarely happens quickly or without resistance. Israel’s work spanned 21 years, including 14 years during which the project stalled due to opposition. They had started strong, but stopped. Yet they eventually returned to the work and finished it.
That’s an important encouragement for any of us who have become discouraged. A pause doesn’t have to be the end of the story. Whether you’re rebuilding a relationship, strengthening your family, or trying to breathe new life into your homeschool, don’t give up too quickly.
Step Five: Pray for God’s Favor
Finally, pray for God’s favor. Rebuilding isn’t ultimately about proving what we can accomplish. It’s about bringing glory to God and trusting Him with the outcome. We can ask God to intervene, guide us, and give us the strength to keep going.
Conclusion
Perhaps you already know what needs rebuilding in your life. The question isn’t necessarily what needs to change, but whether you’re willing to take the first step.
It may feel overwhelming. You may be afraid to begin, but start anyway. Sometimes rebuilding begins with nothing more complicated than a willing heart, a faithful first step, and the courage to begin again.
