10th Grade Curriculum Bundle
10th grade is a big year. This is the year students begin to think about their post-high school plans. Will they go to a community college or a four-year university? Will they attend a tech or trade school? Take on an apprenticeship? Do a gap-year program or missions work? Become an entrepreneur? Whatever their calling, Apologia is here to help prepare them for that path.
10th graders following Apologia’s suggested curriculum path will go through Exploring Creation with Chemistry, 3rd Edition, and Exploring Creation with High School Astronomy. But we also offer courses in all the other core subjects through Apologia Live Classes, including math, history, geography, English, foreign language, and Apologetics.
Apologia Live Classes offers dynamic, interactive lessons led by qualified instructors, eliminating the need for parent grading or instruction. With Apologia, your student’s 10th-grade curriculum can also include Geometry, American History, English 102, and World Religions & Refuting Cults. With this combination of courses, your students will study the measurement of shapes, the rich history of our country, the various world religions, and how their belief systems differ from Christianity. They will also read and analyze the themes of seven character-building books.
Homeschool State Requirements
High school, more than any other time in your student’s homeschool career, is the time it is imperative that your student meets all the state course requirements and passes the required tests. Be sure to search for your state’s regulations on the HSLDA website. Beyond compulseries, there are tips on record keeping, transcript templates, and grading, as well as access to legal counsel.
10th Grade Curriculum: Science
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. – Colossians 1:16-17
Exploring Creation with Chemistry, 3rd Edition is a core subject in most states and is typically listed as a standard course requirement.
Our Chemistry course is offered in a variety of ways:
- Textbook/Student Notebook – This option involves a physical copy of the Chemistry Textbook and Student Notebook. It’s a great option for reading/writing learners.
- Self-Paced Course – This digital option is great for students who prefer to work on the computer and may be visual or auditory learners. It includes a digital copy of the textbook, audiobook, video lessons, AutoGrade+, and a physical copy of the Student Notebook. Students have one full year’s access to the course from the time it is activated.
- Apologia Live Class – This option is ideal for social learners, as your student will participate in a live online class environment alongside other students worldwide and a qualified instructor. Students will need to have access to the curriculum to work independently, but will meet once a week for a lecture to cover the material and ask questions. They will also submit assignments for grading and feedback from their instructor.
📖 Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Chemistry, 3rd Edition, provides students with a strong foundation in chemistry with the goal of preparing them for college-level studies. While user-friendly in its design, it fosters in-depth discussions and provides clear and thorough explanations of concepts. It also explores the lives and work of Christian scientists who made a difference in the chemistry field while giving glory to God.
10th Grade Curriculum: Elective
He who made the Pleiades and Orion, and turns deep darkness into the morning and darkens the day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the surface of the earth, the Lord is his name; –Amos 5:8
Exploring Creation with High School Astronomy, 2nd Edition is an excellent elective choice for science-minded individuals. This course does not require any labs, and students who take the live class are exempt from the math portion of the curriculum.
This course is offered in two ways:
💻Apologia’s Live Class: In Exploring Creation with High School Astronomy, students will marvel at the constellations, study the planets in our solar system, and discover dark matter. They will also learn how to defend the truth of Creation. Students will see how every observable thing in the cosmos points to God’s masterful design of our universe.
10th Grade Curriculum: Mathematics
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. –Ephesians 14-19
Geometry is a core subject and is typically listed as a standard course requirement in many states. If you’re uncomfortable teaching math to your students, Apologia Live Classes is a great option for your family. Your student can take this course under the instruction of our qualified instructor, who will explain the course material, manually grade tests, and provide feedback.
💻 In Apologia’s Recorded Live Class: Geometry, students will study shapes. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then geometry is the picture that will help the student solve the problem. Apologia’s Geometry class will teach us to think logically and clearly about both abstract and non-abstract things and help us to organize, prove, and understand math better.
10th Grade Curriculum: History
Things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. –Psalm 78:3-4
American History is another standard course requirement for most American high school students. Even as a newer nation, there is still much to learn from our American forefathers. God’s hand has been at work throughout all time, and it’s important to view history through that lens.
📖 In Apologia’s Live Class: American History, students will study American history from the first European explorers to the Obama administration. Students will discuss events on a national level, particularly as they relate to the Federal government and issues in American culture. Taught from a biblical worldview, this course will help students develop their critical thinking skills relating to cause and effect, bias, and perspective.
10th Grade Curriculum: English
But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. For truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. –Matthew 13:16-17
English is another compulsory course, but beyond that, at Apologia, we encourage families to instill a love of reading into their children. In this course, students take reading further by learning to analyze a novel and think critically about the biblical concepts woven within it.
💻In Apologia’s Live Class: English 102, students will read seven character-building books by Lamplighter Ministries. These books aim to strengthen students’ relationship with Christ as they study the Christian themes woven throughout each book and apply those truths to their lives. Students will also learn to think critically about story elements, such as characters, plots, and themes.
10th Grade Curriculum: Worldview
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. –John 14:6
One of the benefits of homeschooling is that you can more easily prepare your children to enter the world on their own and not be swayed by other belief systems. This course also prepares students with the skills needed to share the gospel with those of other faiths.
💻In Apologia’s Live Class: World Religions and Refuting Cults, students will study the claims of other religions in contrast to Christianity. In doing so, our students will discover the fundamental differences between Jesus and other gods, preparing themselves to share the gospel with those who worship other gods. The Apostle Paul repeatedly warns in the epistles of false teachers and fables intended to lead people astray. This course will help students prepare for the false teachings, false religions, and cults in our world today.
